The Chicago White Sox and veteran right-hander have reportedly agreed to a minor league contract, according to James Fegan.
He, 32, hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2023. He had hoped for a comeback in 2024, but his last MLB appearance came with the Cleveland Guardians after being traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for infielder Amed Rosario. His stint with Cleveland was short-lived, ending with his release in late August 2023.
A former All-Star in 2016, he once ranked among the game’s top pitchers during his early years with the New York Mets, where he showed star potential.
“The White Sox signed Noah Syndergaard to a minor league deal. He’s at the complex in Arizona,” Fegan shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Now with the White Sox, Syndergaard gets another shot at reviving his MLB career.
This signing fits Chicago’s current approach, as the team is deep in a rebuild. The White Sox may be hoping that Syndergaard can rediscover his form and potentially become a valuable trade asset. He could also serve as a mentor to the younger arms in their developing rotation.
With a 25-54 record and sitting at the bottom of the AL Central, the move isn’t about contending this season—it’s a low-risk gamble with possible future payoff.
Syndergaard still has age on his side, and if he performs well, playoff-bound teams in need of pitching depth may see him as a useful midseason acquisition.
