The New York Rangers are continuing to secure their young talent, with top forward signing a two-year contract extension announced Monday afternoon. The deal is worth a total of $1.95 million and runs through the end of the 2026–27 season, carrying an average annual cap hit of $975,000.
He, 24, has spent his entire NHL career with the Rangers so far. This past season, he recorded five goals and four assists for nine points in 51 games, despite missing significant time due to injury.
The Karlstad, Sweden native averaged 9:16 of ice time per game during the 2024–25 season and posted a Corsi For percentage of 45.1, with a relative Corsi of -5.0.
In total, Edstrom has tallied 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in 62 NHL games. He was originally selected by the Rangers in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Before coming to North America, Edstrom spent parts of five seasons playing in Sweden with Rogle BK and Mora IK in the SHL.

While Edstrom’s extension may not make major headlines, his size and physical style give him value as a depth forward. Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 241 pounds, he was a physical presence for the Rangers, delivering 94 hits—good for fourth among NHL rookies this past season.
