Texas A&M Scores Big with Commitment from Four-Star Safety Chance Collins
The Texas A&M football program notched an impressive recruiting win on Wednesday with the commitment of four-star safety Chance Collins. Collins, a standout from Mansfield Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, selected the Aggies over offers from Utah, West Virginia, and Texas Tech. Notably, Texas A&M was the only non-Big 12 school in his final four. Head coach Mike Elko and his staff successfully kept the in-state talent home.
“BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Chance Collins has Committed to Texas A&M, he tells me for @on3recruits,” Hayes Fawcett posted. “The 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety from Mansfield, TX chose the Aggies over Texas Tech, Utah, and West Virginia.”
After making his decision public, Collins delivered a brief message to Aggie fans:
“What’s up AggieLand I’m home. Gig’Em👍,” he said.
Rated a four-star by 247Sports, Collins ranks as the No. 364 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 33 safety, and the No. 47 recruit in Texas. His athletic resume includes a standout junior season and a strong track background, with impressive times of 10.76 (100m), 21.16 (200m), and 48.67 (400m).
Scouting evaluations highlight Collins’ versatility in the secondary, with the potential to play safety, nickel, or even corner. While his frame offers room for growth, he’s already shown strong ball instincts and production — tallying six interceptions in Fall 2024 and contributing on offense as well.
Though he’s still refining his technique, Collins’ awareness and competitive nature suggest he could thrive at the next level. His future likely involves roles that emphasize coverage over the top or aggressive downhill play, rather than isolating on the outside every snap. Long-term, he’s seen as a Power Four-caliber defensive back with potential NFL upside.
With Collins on board, Texas A&M now boasts the No. 7 recruiting class in the country per 247Sports, having secured 14 commitments — 13 four-stars, one three-star, and no five-stars to date. The class is shaping up to be one of the best under Elko, with room to grow as more top talent considers the Aggies.
