BREAKING NEWS: Finebaum Announces Death Of ‘Iconic’ Caller: ‘A Mount Rushmore Caller’.

On Monday’s edition of The Paul Finebaum Show, Paul Finebaum shared the sad news of the passing of “Larry from Shelby,” calling him “one of the most iconic callers” in the show’s history.

Finebaum, speaking on information from the family, confirmed that Larry had recently passed away.

“He was truly one of the all-time great and beloved callers to the show,” Finebaum told AL.com Monday evening, describing Larry as worthy of a “Mount Rushmore” status among callers.

The announcement deeply affected listeners and fellow callers. “Squirrel from Mississippi” and “Vance from Georgia” both attempted to share memories but were overcome with emotion and had to end their calls early. Many others followed with similar emotional reactions.

Larry Wallace, known as “Larry from Shelby,” had made one final, emotional call the previous week while hospitalized. Despite being on oxygen and a ventilator, he insisted on calling in to say goodbye.

Finebaum reflected on the significance of that moment, expressing deep gratitude to Larry and his family for allowing the show to be part of his final days.

Larry was a devoted Alabama Crimson Tide fan, a Vietnam War veteran, and a longtime member of law enforcement—qualities that came through strongly during his many passionate and colorful calls.

One of his most unforgettable moments came in 2021, when he casually mentioned that he drank 25 Bud Lights during each Alabama game. He explained he avoided eating on game days because it would interfere with his buzz—delivered in a way only Larry could.

“He was truly a dear friend to us all,” Finebaum said.

Rest in peace, “Larry from Shelby.”
