Veteran running back Derrick Henry has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced on Wednesday.
While the Ravens did not release financial details, multiple U.S. media outlets report that the 31-year-old’s extension is valued at \$30 million. If accurate, it would represent the most lucrative deal ever given to a running back over the age of 30.
Henry signed with Baltimore last year following an eight-year stint with the Tennessee Titans.
Standing 6-foot-3 (1.91 meters) and weighing 247 pounds (112 kilograms), Henry is widely considered one of the most powerful and dominant rushers in the NFL.
In his debut season with the Ravens, he ranked second in the league in rushing yards with 1,921—trailing only Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley, who tallied 2,005 yards.
Henry also posted a career-best average of 5.9 yards per carry and racked up 16 rushing touchdowns, forming a dynamic offensive duo with Baltimore’s versatile quarterback Lamar Jackson.
At \$15 million per year, Henry’s new deal places him as the third highest-paid running back in the NFL, behind Barkley (\$20.6 million) and San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey (\$19 million).
