There was a time when he was  affectionately dubbed “Eddie Money,” was a postseason legend for the Atlanta Braves. A key piece of the 2021 World Series-winning squad, he came to Atlanta in a deadline trade with Cleveland—essentially swapping him for the ghost of Pablo Sandoval. His NLCS MVP performance against the Dodgers that year cemented his place in Braves lore.

Fast forward to today, and the tables have turned. Now he is throwing shots, mocking the Braves as “clowns” after they designated him for assignment. This came following yet another lackluster showing at the plate. The real controversy? Manager Brian Snitker chose Rosario to pinch-hit with a broken bat over Eli White, who had been on a hot streak. Predictably, Rosario did nothing.

After taking three out of four games from the Reds, Rosario’s questionable plate appearance stands out as the lone dark mark. The Braves have decided to move on, opting to recall Luke Williams—he of the Mendoza Line batting average—rather than cling to the past with “Eddie Money.” Rosario’s trip to “paradise” now looks more like a Greyhound bus ride to baseball obscurity.

If Snitker had just let White hit, the Braves might be a game above .500 right now.

This might go down as one of the most embarrassing self-owns ever. Rosario calling out the team feels like a punchline in itself—un payaso, indeed.

The Eddie Rosario Saga Should Be a Wake-Up Call

Baseball isn’t always about what you’ve done lately, mostly because of fully guaranteed MLB contracts and the strength of the players’ union. In the NFL, underperforming stars like Anthony Rendon or Kris Bryant might’ve been cut long ago.

Still, the Braves are playing better baseball now. Aside from their struggles with the Dodgers, they’ve looked solid, especially at home. They’re digging out of an early 0–7 hole and could make history as the first team to reach the postseason after such a dreadful start. But it’s a long season, and every game matters.

Imagine how much better Braves fans would feel right now if the team had swept the Reds. That could’ve happened if Snitker had trusted the red-hot Eli White instead of tossing struggling Rosario into the moment. Baseball is a strategic game, but you need good instincts—and throwing in your coldest bat in a key spot isn’t that.

Like Kyle Pitts with the Falcons, Rosario hasn’t really done much since 2021.
