After the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings wasted no time adding talent, signing. The second-highest-rated undrafted free agent quarterback — and then bringing in a highly-regarded UDFA running back for training camp.
Minnesota picked up former Jacksonville State running back , ranked by NFL.com as the 14th-best undrafted RB. he measures 5-foot-8 and weighs 186 pounds.
“He only spent one season at Jacksonville State after excelling at Limestone University, but he kept up his production, topping 1,000 rushing yards for a third straight year,” wrote NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein. “While he’s smaller in stature, he has a good feel for developing running lanes and gets to the action quickly. However, he’s not a strong third-down option and ball security was an issue in 2024.”
Ty Chandler’s Future in Minnesota Looks Uncertain
At the top of the Vikings’ running back depth chart, Aaron Jones leads the way after re-signing on a three-year deal this offseason.
Minnesota also acquired former 49ers back Jordan Mason in a trade, swapping a 2025 draft pick and a sixth-rounder to bring him in. Mason is expected to slot in as Jones’ primary backup.
Those moves pushed Ty Chandler, a 2022 fifth-round pick, down the depth chart to the third-string role. Over three seasons, Chandler has totaled 663 rushing yards, three touchdowns on 164 carries, and added 27 catches for 201 receiving yards, according to Pro Football Reference.
Chandler is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has been considered a likely trade candidate for much of the offseason. The signing of Stewart suggests the Vikings are actively looking to strengthen their running back depth behind Jones and Mason.
Also on the roster is Zavier Scott, currently listed as the fourth-string back on Minnesota’s depth chart.
