Former Kentucky Wildcats sharpshooter who played high school basketball at Covington Catholic in Northern Kentucky, announced his retirement from basketball on Thursday via Instagram.

In his farewell post, he reflected on his journey, writing:

“What a ride it’s been,” he shared on Instagram and Twitter. “Basketball has given me more than I could’ve imagined. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to play this game and experience things I dreamed about as a kid. Even through the tough times, it was all worth it. I’ll always cherish the game and the lifelong connections it gave me. To every teammate, coach, trainer, family member, and anyone I crossed paths with—thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey. I hope to one day give back to the sport that gave me everything. Thank you.”

Frederick’s college career spanned a unique era in NCAA basketball, overlapping with the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of the transfer portal, and NIL opportunities. He redshirted twice during his seven-year career, including a medical redshirt during the 2021–22 season—his first at Kentucky.

Before joining the Wildcats, Frederick played two strong seasons at Iowa, where he was known for his elite shooting—hitting 46.1% and 47.4% from three-point range in the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons. He earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors in 2020 and was part of the Iowa team that earned a No. 2 seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

In his lone healthy season at Kentucky (2022–23), Frederick averaged 6.1 points per game while shooting 35.1% from the field. He appeared in 27 games, starting 15 of them, and scored in double figures 10 times, including five games in SEC competition.

Frederick wrapped up his college career at Cincinnati, where he spent two seasons with the Bearcats as they transitioned into the Big 12.

A standout at Covington Catholic, Frederick led his team to a state championship in 2018 and earned numerous accolades, including Kentucky Sweet 16 MVP and Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year. That season, he broke school records with 900 points, 315 made field goals, and 107 three-pointers.

Frederick is married to Blair Green, a former Kentucky women’s basketball player who appeared in 121 games (56 starts) over five seasons. A standout from Harlan County High School, Green was named a 2018 Naismith High School All-American Honorable Mention.
