After missing out on Donovan Dent and Silas Demary Jr., Kentucky has identified a new point guard target to replace Lamont Butler. Head coach Mark Pope and assistant Alvin Brooks III met with him, a transfer from Pittsburgh, just before the start of the week-long dead period.
He is a 6-3, 175-pound sophomore, had a standout season, averaging 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while starting all 31 games for the Panthers. He scored in double figures in 26 of those games, including nine 20-point performances and a triple-double of 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 93-48 victory over VMI on November 18.
Over his two seasons at Pitt, he averaged 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, shooting 29.8% from beyond the arc, and started 50 of 64 games at point guard. Lowe is also considering the 2025 NBA Draft process.
247Sports national recruiting analyst Travis Branham commented on Lowe’s recruitment, mentioning that he is targeting a select group of schools, including North Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and potentially Miami. Branham noted that Lowe, a Texas native, could also be pursued by programs like Texas, which is in need of a point guard.
Meanwhile, Kentucky’s transfer portal class for Pope’s first season was ranked No. 5 nationally by 247Sports and included notable players such as Brandon Garrison (No. 20), Otega Oweh (No. 31), and Jaxson Robinson (No. 33). The Wildcats will lose several players, including Robinson, Butler, Carr, Williams, Brea, and Almonor due to eligibility, along with Kriisa, who transferred after missing much of the season with an injury.
The NCAA transfer portal, introduced in 2018, allows athletes to explore their options freely, and while entering the portal shows intent to transfer, players can still withdraw their name at any time. However, schools are not obligated to retain players who enter the portal.
