The Kansas City Chiefs are in need of another wide receiver this offseason, and they could potentially trade for Alec Pierce before the 2025 season. Bleacher Report suggests that the Chiefs should consider acquiring him, as landing a top-tier receiver via trade may be difficult due to their recent Super Bowl success. Since they are among the favorites to return to the championship game, adding a reliable wideout could improve their chances. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had one of his least productive seasons by his own high standards, and bringing in a player like him could provide much-needed stability to the offense.
He is a former second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati, led the Colts with 824 receiving yards last season. However, with Indianapolis recently extending Michael Pittman, they may not offer a new contract tohim as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. Given his contract status, he could be a sought-after trade target for multiple teams. The Colts also have emerging talents like Adonai Mitchell and Josh Downs, making it feasible for them to trade him in exchange for a draft pick or another player.
For the Chiefs, acquiring him makes sense. With Rashee Rice recovering from an ACL injury, they need immediate help at wide receiver. Additionally, Xavier Worthy is facing offseason challenges, and DeAndre Hopkins is no longer part of the roster. However, other teams could also step in and compete for a potential trade involving Pierce.
Chiefs, Colts Linked In Alec Pierce Trade – Chargers, Panthers Could Intervene
The Los Angeles Chargers have a promising offense, but they can’t ignore their need for additional pass catchers beyond Ladd McConkey. Although they signed Mike Williams, he’s more of a short-term solution, as evidenced by his one-year contract. Williams is past his prime, and with Quentin Johnston struggling each game, the team may part ways with him after the 2025 season if he doesn’t improve. Additionally, Joshua Palmer has moved on to a new team, leaving McConkey as their only reliable receiver—despite his own inconsistencies, similar to Johnston’s.
Alec Pierce, however, possesses a similar build and strong hands like McConkey, making them a potentially dynamic duo for Justin Herbert’s offense. While Pierce may not rack up over 1,000 yards, he could serve as a valuable WR3, helping to create separation in the slot. McConkey will eventually need support, and acquiring Pierce could be a crucial first step in strengthening the receiving corps while Herbert remains in his prime. With AFC competition getting tougher, Herbert can’t afford to rely on risky throws any longer.
Help for Young’s Offense
Head Coach Dave Canales and the Carolina Panthers have made solid progress in building a strong offense around quarterback Bryce Young. While Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are promising playmakers, they are still untested at the highest level and must prove they can compete against top-tier defenders. Adding Alec Pierce, who has more experience, could bring an extra spark to the offense, especially when Adam Thielen eventually retires.
