Looking Back at His Career
Cam Skattebo attended Rio Linda High School in Rio Linda, California, where he had a standout junior season, rushing for 3,550 yards and 42 touchdowns while leading his team to a state championship. Despite his remarkable high school career, he received just one Division I offer—from his hometown program, Sacramento State.
Skattebo went on to play two seasons at Sacramento State, delivering an impressive 2022 campaign with 1,382 rushing yards, seven touchdowns, a passing touchdown, and even a touchdown off an onside kick. His performance earned him first-team All-Big Sky honors, Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year, and FCS All-American recognition.
He later transferred to Arizona State, where he put up even bigger numbers in 2024, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns while adding 45 receptions for 605 yards and three scores. Skattebo shined in Arizona State’s double-overtime Peach Bowl loss to Texas, racking up 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns, catching eight passes for 99 yards, and throwing a 42-yard touchdown pass.
Why the Colts Should Draft Him
Jonathan Taylor is undoubtedly one of the NFL’s premier running backs. The Colts’ star led the league in rushing in 2021 and earned his second Pro Bowl selection last season after racking up 1,431 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
When healthy, Taylor is a game-changer, but injuries have sidelined him multiple times in recent years. That’s why Indianapolis needs reliable depth in the backfield. Last season’s backups, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson, failed to impress.
The Colts added Khalil Herbert in free agency, which could prove to be a strong move, but they still need more reinforcements. Cam Skattebo could be that solution. The 5-foot-9, 219-pound back turned heads at the combine with a 39.5-inch vertical jump. He plays with a bruising style reminiscent of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott, making him a nightmare to bring down.
