Two promising prospects, both 20 years old and key contributors for High-A Everett, have been promoted to Double-A Arkansas after powering the AquaSox to a first-half title in the Northwest League.
The move marks a significant step in their development, as they’ll now face tougher pitching and more challenging conditions.
Funko Field in Everett is known for favoring hitters, giving sluggers like Montes and Arroyo an edge. In contrast, Arkansas’ home park in Little Rock is recognized as a pitcher’s park, especially tough on right-handed batters like Arroyo. It’s a crucial proving ground for Mariners prospects.
So far, both players have shown they’re ready for the jump.
- Montes, a 6-foot-5, 250-pound Cuban right fielder, dominated the Northwest League’s first half with a league-leading 18 home runs and 50 RBIs in 67 games. He posted a strong .268/.387/.572 slash line (.959 OPS) over 250 at-bats. Baseball America ranks him as the No. 53 overall prospect in its Top 100.
- Arroyo, a Colombian second baseman, wasn’t far behind—finishing second in homers (15) and third in extra-base hits (29) across 65 games. He slashed .269/.422/.512 (.934 OPS) in 242 at-bats and is ranked No. 64 by Baseball America.

Meanwhile, the Mariners’ top overall prospect, 19-year-old shortstop Colt Emerson, had a breakout week that earned him Northwest League Player of the Week honors.
Last week, Emerson lit up the stat sheet with a scorching .529/.600/1.118 slash line (1.718 OPS), helping Everett clinch the first-half championship.
Over the season, Emerson is batting .267/.372/.428 (.800 OPS) in 243 at-bats and continues to receive high praise for his defensive play at shortstop.
