Matt Rempe has re-signed with the New York Rangers on a two-year deal valued at \$1.95 million, according to a source familiar with the agreement. The source spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, as the financial terms have not been publicly announced. Rempe’s contract will carry a \$975,000 cap hit in each of the next two NHL seasons.
The 22-year-old forward has appeared in 70 regular-season and playoff games for the Rangers over the last two years. He’s become a fan favorite and a well-liked teammate, known for his physical play, frequent fights, and hard hits.
His re-signing marks another roster move by general manager Chris Drury, who recently traded veteran Chris Kreider to Anaheim. The Rangers aim to bounce back into playoff contention after missing the postseason in 2025, a year after reaching the 2024 Eastern Conference Final.
Rempe, a 2020 sixth-round draft pick, gives new head coach Mike Sullivan a physical depth option up front. The team sees him as a developing player with room to grow. So far, Rempe has recorded five goals and six assists in his NHL career.
