The San Francisco 49ers made several roster moves on Friday afternoon. Among them was the release of former second-round defensive end Drake Jackson, along with offensive lineman Jalen McKenzie. Cornerback Tre Tomlinson was also waived with an injury designation.
Bolstering Depth at Offensive Tackle
To strengthen competition along the offensive line, the team signed offensive tackles Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere, as well as cornerback Dallis Flowers.

Petit-Frere, previously discussed as a potential signing after his time with the Titans, has struggled in pass protection. His 10% pressure rate allowed ranks second-worst among tackles with 500+ pass-blocking snaps. In 2024, he gave up 11 sacks and had the league’s highest blown block percentage.
This move gives San Francisco a low-risk option to compete with Colton McKivitz, who hasn’t firmly secured his starting role.
Andre Dillard, a former first-round pick in 2019, began his career with the Eagles before playing for both the Titans and Packers last season. He started 10 games at left tackle for Tennessee in 2023, surrendering 10 sacks.
These additions provide insurance if star left tackle Trent Williams struggles with injuries or if McKivitz falters.

Meanwhile, the Houston Texans and DeMeco Ryans have set a new precedent by giving the 34th overall pick a fully guaranteed deal—the first of its kind for a second-round selection. This could lead to slower signings among other second-rounders across the league.
