Despite the University of Miami’s high-profile recruiting pitch — which even included rapper Rick Ross — the Hurricanes were unable to land top transfer portal target. The highly regarded safety from Houston has officially pledged to LSU for the 2025 season, handing Miami its most significant loss of the spring portal cycle.
He visited Miami early last week but made a follow-up trip to LSU on Sunday, where he ultimately decided to commit.
The 6-foot, 215-pound defensive back posted 74 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 13 pass breakups last season. He was a starter in every game over the past two years for the Cougars and earned First Team All-Big 12 honors in 2024.
Haulcy began his college career at New Mexico in 2022, where he made an immediate impact as a freshman. He later transferred to Houston, starting 24 straight games and recording 172 total tackles across two seasons.

He now becomes LSU’s 17th transfer addition this offseason, the most ever under head coach Brian Kelly in a single year. Haulcy is expected to bolster a secondary that already features standout players like Tamarcus Cooley and Jardin Gilbert.
Meanwhile, Miami continues to navigate a shifting defensive backfield as several transfer targets have committed elsewhere. Tennessee’s JaKobe Thomas committed to the Hurricanes, but his teammate Christian Charles chose Virginia. Haulcy is headed to LSU, Brent Austin of USF is off to Cal, and Colorado’s Colton Hood will join Tennessee.
Only one previously linked name remains in the portal: Keionte Scott. After transferring from Auburn to Houston this winter, Scott is still available — and Miami is expected to stay aggressive in pursuit of adding depth to its secondary.
