He is the only head coach in the history of South Carolina’s beach volleyball program, will not return for the upcoming season. Athletic director Jeremiah Donati announced the news Monday, confirming that his tenure will conclude when his contract expires on June 30.

“He has done an outstanding job using athletics as a tool to teach life lessons and support the growth of young women both on and off the court,” Donati said in a statement.

Moritz was hired in 2013 to launch the Gamecocks’ beach volleyball program, which began competition in 2014. During his 12 seasons at the helm, South Carolina recorded seven 20-win campaigns and earned NCAA Tournament berths in 2017 and 2018.

However, the 2025 season marked a low point for the program, with the team finishing 14-17 overall and just 1-13 against ranked opponents.

Donati, who took over as athletic director in January, will now make his second head coaching hire. He previously named Sarah Rumely Noble as head coach of the indoor volleyball team last month.
