South Carolina is still awaiting word on the 2025 eligibility of transfer running back and head coach Shane Beamer is clearly growing impatient with the delay.
He transferred from Utah State in January, has yet to be cleared by the NCAA more than three months later. During a stop on the Gamecocks’ “Welcome Home” tour in Summerville, Beamer was asked for an update and expressed his growing frustration.
“To be honest, it’s getting frustrating,” Beamer said. “I know the NCAA has a lot going on, but we submitted everything they asked for back in January. Since then, they requested more documents, and we’ve provided everything—including working with Faison’s former schools to get what was needed. Yet here we are, in May, and still no answer. It’s honestly disappointing.”
Beamer emphasized the uncertainty has complicated roster planning, especially after the team opted not to bring in another running back during the recent transfer portal window. Without knowing whether Faison will be eligible, the Gamecocks face challenges preparing for the 2025 season.
Faison’s collegiate journey began in 2019 at Marshall, where he grayshirted. He didn’t see game action until 2022 at Snow College, a JUCO program. In between, he was enrolled at Lackawanna College in 2020 but didn’t play. He later transferred to Snow in 2021 and played for Utah State during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Now, following the NCAA’s ruling on quarterback Diego Pavia, Faison is seeking an extra year of eligibility and awaiting the NCAA’s decision on his petition.
