Since entering the league in 2015, Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has established himself as one of the game’s top performers. After being traded to the Mets in 2021, he signed a 10-year, $341 million deal to stay in New York. Ahead of the 2025 season, there was talk of Lindor possibly being named the Mets’ first official captain since David Wright retired in 2018. While the Mets put the topic on pause, it continues to generate discussion in the media. In an interview with The Mirror US, Lindor addressed the speculation, saying, “If they decide to give me that role—if the players, front office, and coaches feel I’m the right person—it would be an honor and a privilege. But it has to come from them.”
