A former standout at Penn State, is entering a crucial year in 2025 as he plays for a new NFL contract.
As anticipated, the Philadelphia Eagles have declined to exercise the fifth-year option on Dotson’s rookie deal for the 2026 season, per a report from Fox Sports on Wednesday.
He will remain with the Eagles for the upcoming season. While he’s aiming to solidify his value to the team, he’s also likely preparing for the possibility of entering free agency after the 2025 season.
The Eagles traded a third-round pick to the Washington Commanders to acquire hin before last season. Washington had originally drafted him 16th overall in 2022. Hailing from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, he earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2021 during his time at Penn State.
Over his three years in the NFL, Dotson has tallied 103 receptions for 1,257 yards and 11 touchdowns. His strongest seasons came with Washington before he transitioned to a supporting role in Philadelphia’s offense last year, serving as the No. 3 receiver behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, alongside tight end Dallas Goedert. Dotson finished the regular season with 19 catches for 216 yards.
Despite a quieter regular season, he made an impact in the playoffs. He caught two passes for 42 yards in Super Bowl LIX, including a 27-yard grab initially ruled a touchdown. He also found the end zone in the Eagles’ Wild Card victory over the Green Bay Packers.
With the NFL Draft approaching this weekend, it remains to be seen if the Eagles will select a wide receiver — a move that could influence Dotson’s role in the offense moving forward.
