Oklahoma men’s basketball coach Porter Moser and assistant general manager Trae Young continue to bolster the Sooners’ roster with more talent.
Multiple reports indicate that Alabama transfer visited Norman on Tuesday, hinting at a potentially huge pickup for OU. Reid even shared a photo on Instagram confirming his visit to campus.
He is a 6-foot-8 freshman forward, was a highly-touted five-star recruit from Grovetown, Georgia, and a 2024 McDonald’s All-American. ESPN and On3 ranked him as the No. 11 player in the 2024 class.
During his freshman year at Alabama, he started the season in the lineup but primarily came off the bench as the team advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. He averaged six points, 2.8 rebounds, and played 14.1 minutes per game.
Pete Nakos of On3 noted that Reid had a “Do not contact” label when he entered the transfer portal on April 12—usually a sign that a player has already decided on their next destination. However, nearly two weeks later, Reid has visited both Oklahoma and NC State, and there are rumors he might consider playing closer to home at Georgia.
The Sooners have already added three players via the transfer portal this offseason, including 6-foot-9 forward Tae Davis from Notre Dame—OU’s first portal commitment in a position they desperately needed help.
Davis is a step in the right direction for reinforcing the frontcourt, but Oklahoma will likely need more reinforcements to compete in the physically demanding SEC. The potential addition of Reid, along with freshman Kai Rogers, could give the Sooners the depth they need to avoid another disappointing season.
