Things nearly took a major downturn in Tuscaloosa this offseason.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, an AFC coordinator shared a surprising insight:
“We heard from Alabama that all the skill position players would’ve transferred if [Milroe] returned.”
That’s a bold claim, especially considering Jalen Milroe is viewed as one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. Still, the sentiment isn’t entirely without basis.
Milroe appeared to take a step back as a passer between his redshirt sophomore and junior seasons. His decision-making in the pocket was inconsistent, and his accuracy left receivers in tough spots. Despite his struggles through the air, Milroe remained a dynamic runner, leading the Crimson Tide with 726 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. As a result, Alabama’s running backs were at times underutilized, and the offense lacked rhythm and consistency throughout the year.
Given the shaky offensive performance, it’s understandable that several skill players might have considered transferring if Milroe had returned for another season. However, with Milroe declaring for the NFL Draft, Alabama managed to hold on to most of its offensive playmakers heading into 2025.
