Los Angeles Dodgers standout reliever has landed on the 15-day injured list due to a mild sprain in his right forearm, and there’s currently no set timetable for his return, according to Sonja Chen of MLB.com. he hasn’t taken the mound since April 13, and there’s a possibility the Dodgers could be without one of their most dependable bullpen arms for an extended stretch.
This is a tough blow for manager Dave Roberts and the Dodgers, given his consistent dominance throughout his career. Since joining L.A. in 2020, he’s posted an impressive 2.34 ERA and 3.03 FIP over 162 appearances and 157.2 innings, along with a strong 10.2-to-2.7 strikeout-to-walk ratio per nine innings. While generally reliable, Treinen did miss the entire 2023 season recovering from labrum and rotator cuff surgeries — and at 36, returning from injury becomes more challenging.
Still, the Dodgers are well-positioned to weather his absence. Tanner Scott has been lights-out in the closer role, rookie Jack Dreyer is emerging as a breakout talent, and Alex Vesia, Kirby Yates, and Evan Phillips are all off to solid starts despite the limited early-season sample.
Though Treinen is a major asset to the bullpen and will be a crucial piece down the stretch, the team is smart to avoid rushing his recovery. The priority is ensuring he’s fully healthy for the more critical parts of the season.
