Kalen DeBoer recently gave an update on Alabama linebacker who missed all of spring practice while recovering from a season-ending injury.
His 2024 campaign was cut short due to a lower-body injury sustained against Oklahoma. In a previous interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network, he mentioned he’s on track to return in time for the fall.
Despite being sidelined, he has taken on a leadership role this spring.
“Deontae has done an incredible job staying involved and stepping up as a leader during his recovery,” DeBoer said during a Team Focus charity event in Mobile. “That’s not an easy thing to do, but he’s stayed engaged, helped coach his teammates, and remained in the thick of everything.

Lawson is expected to play a key role in Alabama’s 2025 season under DeBoer’s leadership, both in guiding the team and boosting his NFL draft profile.
