South Carolina football is wrapping up spring practice, which will conclude with the annual Garnet and Black spring game on April 18 at 7:00 p.m. EST at Williams-Brice Stadium. While preparing for the spring showcase, head coach Shane Beamer is also focused on shaping his team for the upcoming season.
Spring practices serve not only as a chance for newcomers to get comfortable with the program but also as an opportunity for returning players to climb the depth chart. It’s also a period when some athletes reassess their fit and decide whether to enter the transfer portal.
So far, South Carolina has done well to avoid major roster losses during the spring transfer window. Initially, only EDGE Wendell Gregory entered the portal. However, a second departure has now been confirmed.

Safety Emory Floyd Enters Transfer Portal
Former 4-star recruit Emory Floyd has decided to enter the transfer portal. Despite high expectations coming into South Carolina, Floyd never found consistent footing with the Gamecocks. In his first year (2022), he appeared in games against Georgia State and Georgia but didn’t record any stats, although he did earn SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll honors while redshirting.
The following season, he saw limited action in three games—Furman, Mississippi State, and Kentucky—logging two tackles and one pass breakup. A hamstring injury further impacted his 2023 season, restricting him to just two games against Akron and Ole Miss, again without recording any stats.
In addition to football, Floyd competed on the Gamecocks’ track and field team, running the 60m indoors and the 100m and 200m outdoors. With his departure, the safety room gets a bit thinner, but South Carolina’s secondary remains deep, especially with several promising young players returning.
