Despite their aggressive moves, the Mets may still be exploring additional upgrades. Several players have voiced support for the idea of acquiring Miami Marlins ace via trade. However, that possibility appears unlikely for now. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Marlins’ front office has consistently told other teams that Alcantara is not on the trading block.

Landing Alcantara would be a massive boost for New York. Since debuting in 2017, he has logged 910.1 innings with a 3.72 ERA, 1.155 WHIP, and a 20.7 WAR. His standout 2022 season—when he earned the NL Cy Young Award with 33 starts, 228.2 innings pitched, 207 strikeouts, and a 2.28 ERA—cemented his status as one of the league’s top pitchers. Adding to his value is his team-friendly contract: he’s signed through 2027 on a five-year, $56 million deal, making him a financially viable target for clubs like the Mets.
