The Georgia Bulldogs are locked in a fierce recruiting battle for the nation’s top quarterback prospect. While the coaching staff focuses on the recruiting trail, the team is also navigating an ongoing quarterback competition ahead of the 2025 season. With Carson Beck transferring to the Miami Hurricanes, Gunner Stockton is widely viewed as the frontrunner for the starting role, though Ryan Puglisi remains in contention.
Meanwhile, head coach Kirby Smart is making a strong push to secure the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 class. The challenge? Oregon is also heavily pursuing five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. Both programs will learn their fate on May 5, the day Curtis is set to announce his commitment. The Nashville Christian (Tenn.) standout was previously committed to Georgia before reopening his recruitment last fall.
ESPN’s Eli Lederman predicts that Curtis will ultimately choose Georgia, despite Oregon’s strong push. “Oregon has dominated Curtis’ recruitment since he decommitted from Georgia last fall,” Lederman wrote. “The Ducks have sold Curtis on his fit in (offensive coordinator Will) Stein’s offensive scheme, and Lanning’s leadership since 2022 has made Oregon an appealing destination.
“… Ultimately, the same relationships that initially led Curtis to commit to Georgia last March should win out again in a close recruitment—especially with the Bulldogs expected to ramp up their NIL efforts for the 2026 class after missing out on several top prospects in recent cycles.”
