NORMAN – Oklahoma men’s gymnastics standout Emre Dodanli earned Regular Season All-American honors in three events, leading a group of six Sooners recognized by the College Gymnastics Association on Tuesday.
Dodanli was named an All-American on floor exercise, vault, and horizontal bar. Junior Ignacio Yockers secured the honor on pommel horse, while senior Matthew Burgoyne, sophomore Tas Hajdu, and freshman Francisco Velez Belendez were recognized for their performances on still rings. Junior Kelton Christiansen also earned the distinction on horizontal bar.
Since 2020, the CGA has awarded Regular Season All-American honors to the top eight-ranked gymnasts (including ties) in each event and the all-around category, based on their four-score average.
A finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award, Dodanli is one of only three gymnasts nationwide to earn three Regular Season All-America accolades, alongside Stanford’s Taylor Burkhart (vault, high bar, all-around) and Michigan’s Fred Richard (floor, parallel bars, high bar). The Milton, Ontario, native ranks second nationally on high bar (14.033), fourth on floor exercise (14.000), and fourth on vault (14.283), making him the only gymnast in the country to place in the top five across three events. Throughout his career, Dodanli has now collected nine CGA Regular Season All-America honors: four on floor, three on vault, and two on high bar.
Yockers and Christiansen have each received CGA Regular Season All-America recognition in all three of their collegiate seasons. Yockers, a Tulsa, Oklahoma native, ranks fifth nationally on pommel horse (14.333), while Christiansen, from Arvada, Colorado, holds the third-highest ranking on high bar (13.983).
Hajdu, from Las Vegas, Nevada, secured his second consecutive All-America nod on still rings, ranking fourth nationally (14.017). Burgoyne, from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, placed third on rings (14.033), and Velez Belendez, hailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, ranked fifth (13.917). This marks the first career Regular Season All-America selection for both Burgoyne and Velez Belendez.
The No. 1-ranked Sooners are set to compete in the MPSF Championship on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they will face No. 2 Stanford, No. 9 Air Force, and No. 10 California. The meet, hosted by the Air Force Academy, begins at 5 p.m. CT and will be available for streaming via Overnght with live scoring on Virti.us.
