Ohio State to South Carolina, then back to Ohio State, and now returning to South Carolina.

It might sound like a chaotic road trip, but it’s actually the winding college basketball journey of Meechie Johnson Jr.

On Tuesday, Johnson announced that he will spend his final season of college basketball with the Gamecocks—a program he previously played for.

The talented guard from Garfield Heights, near Cleveland, initially committed to Ohio State out of high school and spent his first two seasons with the Buckeyes. In 2022, he transferred to South Carolina, where he played for two years before deciding to return to Ohio State for the 2024-25 season.

Now, in a surprising twist, Johnson has once again chosen to rejoin South Carolina for his final year of eligibility.

During his previous two seasons with the Gamecocks, Johnson averaged 13.4 points per game, posting his best collegiate stats in multiple categories. His return is a major boost for South Carolina as they look to compete in the highly competitive SEC.

Meanwhile, Ohio State is left to wonder how they managed to lose the same player to the same school twice.
