Peter Woods was at the center of transfer speculation this past season, with rumors swirling that he might leave Clemson for Alabama.
These talks added some tension to the Tigers’ playoff run and eventual elimination, as some believed he would return home to Alabama after the season.
However, the Alabaster, Ala., native put those rumors to rest over the weekend, telling reporters that he remained focused on Clemson’s goals and ignored outside noise. He emphasized that the speculation about him transferring was nothing more than rumors.
While many had already suspected this, Woods’ public clarification provided the transparency that some had been seeking. He also made it clear that his mindset is all about championship contention, stating that if a team doesn’t believe it can win a national title, then there’s no point in competing. That kind of mentality could be what sets this year’s Clemson squad apart from those that fell short of expectations.

Dabo Swinney has plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about his returning roster, especially with Woods—now a junior—expected to have a breakout 2025 season.
In his first two years, spanning 23 games, Woods has recorded 54 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. With continued development, he has a strong chance of earning All-American honors while helping Clemson chase a national championship.
And he’ll be doing it in a Clemson uniform—not an Alabama one.
