Following Silas Demary Jr.’s unexpected announcement last week, Georgia basketball received more predictable news on Monday when two members of its 2024-2025 roster declared their intent to enter the transfer portal.
Junior forward RJ Godfrey and sophomore guard De’Shayne Montgomery have both decided to leave Georgia, as reported by On3.
RJ Godfrey
The 6-foot-8 forward, son of former Georgia linebacker Randall Godfrey, averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season while shooting an efficient 53.2% from the field.
Godfrey originally transferred to Georgia from Clemson, where he played a reserve role, averaging 6.1 points per game for a Tigers team that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Seeking more playing time and an opportunity to represent the school he grew up supporting, he joined the Bulldogs ahead of the 2024-2025 season.
His most memorable performance came in a dominant outing against North Florida, where he posted 21 points and 12 rebounds. Notably, he played in every game throughout the season. Godfrey has one year of eligibility remaining.

De’Shayne Montgomery
The 6-foot-5 sophomore guard transferred to Georgia before the 2024 season alongside senior guard Dakota Leffew in a package deal from Mount St. Mary’s. However, Montgomery’s debut was delayed due to an eligibility issue, forcing him to sit out the first nine games of the season because he lacked enough transferrable credits for the first semester.

When he finally took the court on December 19 against Buffalo, Montgomery wasted no time making an impact, scoring 16 points and grabbing three steals. He followed that up with an explosive 22-point performance against Charleston Southern in the next game. However, as the season progressed, his playing time significantly declined, making those early performances the highlights of his tenure with the Bulldogs.
Montgomery finished his lone season at Georgia averaging 6.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.9% from the field. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
