Veteran defensive lineman has officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday after six seasons, the last three spent with the Detroit Lions. The 28-year-old attributed his decision to an accumulation of injuries, including a torn MCL sustained during training camp last year, which kept him out for the entire 2024 season.
“After six years in the NFL, I am officially retiring for medical reasons. I’m proud of the career I’ve had, but the accumulation of injuries has outweighed my desire to keep playing. I want to thank the Atlanta Falcons for taking a chance on an under-the-radar Division II prospect and drafting me.
I’m also grateful to the Detroit Lions for claiming me off waivers, giving me a second contract, and allowing me to prove myself as an NFL starter. A huge thank you to the front offices and coaches who supported me and believed in my abilities. Who would have thought a former quarterback from small-town Barberton, Ohio, would go on to sack NFL QBs?”

Cominsky went on to say:
“I gained invaluable lessons throughout my football career that will undoubtedly help me in the next chapter of my life. I had the opportunity to play in high-stakes games on some of the biggest stages. I lined up alongside players I once looked up to as a young athlete, shook hands with Hall of Famers, and built relationships with incredible people.
I stepped onto NFL fields I had never visited before—not as a spectator, but as a player. I had conversations with people from all walks of life, gaining insights that broadened my perspective in ways I never expected. Through it all, I leaned on my faith, finding strength and security in God’s guidance.”

“Above all, my marriage grew stronger, and I was blessed with two beautiful children, each arriving at just the right moments in my career, giving me the strength to finish strong. I walk away from the game with my family at the forefront of my mind, and because of that, I’ve found peace in making this tough decision. Time moves forward.”
