Juan Soto has quickly adapted to life with the New York Mets, the crosstown rivals of his former team. Meanwhile, New York Yankees outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. paid tribute to Soto by imitating his signature “Soto Shuffle” in the batter’s box.
“In other Jazz Chisholm Jr. news, I asked Juan Soto for a review of Chisholm’s opening weekend Soto Shuffle. ‘He did it really good,’ Soto said with a big smile. So for Chisholm, that’s a fan in Juan Soto and a critic in Dave Portnoy. I’d say he’s coming out ahead in that deal,” SNY’s Andy Martino shared on X, formerly Twitter.
Soto has started his Mets tenure on a strong note and is eager to maintain his momentum.
Another former Yankee also made the switch to the Mets this offseason—pitcher Clay Holmes. Unlike Soto, Holmes faces a significant transition as he moves from the bullpen to the starting rotation, a shift that has come with its own challenges.
“You can’t replicate everything in spring,” Holmes told The Athletic. “There will definitely be a lot of learning early on, and I’ll try to soak in as much as possible. I’ve just got to be aware of the things I’m going through and how to handle them better as the season goes.”
Holmes has leaned on his diverse pitch selection to ease the adjustment and maximize his effectiveness as a starter.
“In spring, I did a pretty good job of using my whole arsenal. I’d throw things just because I needed to throw them,” he explained. “When you get into games, there’s a tendency to fall back on what’s comfortable. For me, the key is trusting my pitch mix the second and third time through the order. I’ve had success using it, so I need to keep relying on it.”
