The Boston Red Sox and their star designated hitter, Rafael Devers, have opened the 2025 MLB season with a 1-2 record. On Saturday, they suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers. Devers has appeared in all three games but has yet to register a hit in 12 at-bats. He has, however, recorded one RBI and drawn a walk. While it’s not the start the 28-year-old had envisioned, there’s no cause for concern given his track record of success with Boston.
Following his third game, Devers made an unfortunate mark in MLB history. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Devers set a new record for the most strikeouts in the first three games of a season, striking out 10 times.
Despite his early struggles, fans are well aware of Devers’ offensive capabilities. He has been a standout performer throughout his career, hitting 28 home runs with 83 RBIs and a .272/.354/.516 slash line in 2024. The previous year, he posted even stronger numbers with 33 homers, 100 RBIs, and a .271/.351/.500 slash line. Though his start has been less than ideal, it’s only a matter of time before he finds his rhythm and starts delivering at the plate.
The Red Sox will look to bounce back in their fourth game of the series against the Rangers, scheduled for today at 2:35 p.m. ET.
