This is pretty hilarious.
Brock Purdy recently took a subtle jab at former 49ers quarterback during an appearance on the Built 4 More podcast. When asked about his rookie season in 2022, Purdy shared his thoughts on the quarterback situation.
“I don’t know how it’s going to go down because there’s guys in front of me with Trey Lance, and then later when Jimmy Garoppolo joined again. But once Jimmy became the starter, I was like, ‘I’m getting some playing time this year, man.’”
It’s hard not to laugh at this. Purdy hadn’t even spent much time with Garoppolo when he was drafted, as the 49ers had him away from the team while they figured out how to trade him. But Purdy seemed to know just how injury-prone Garoppolo was. Of course, the 49ers could’ve filled him in on that, or he could’ve been aware of Garoppolo’s history.
What makes this so funny is that Purdy is usually known for avoiding comments like this. What he says is true, but it’s also a light, subtle shot. It’s not something offensive, just amusing to hear. Purdy’s typically smooth with his words, but since he didn’t have much time with Garoppolo in meetings or practices, this comment feels more candid.
Either way, it’s great to hear a player say something a little unexpected. Purdy keeping it real like this is both surprising and hilarious. Props to him for being authentic. Hopefully, he continues to do more of this.
