Carson Beck will be sporting new colors in his final college football season, having transferred to the Miami Hurricanes from Georgia. However, the big question is what version of Beck will take the field in 2025. In his first year as a starter, he led Georgia to a 13-1 record in 2023, earning All-SEC Second-Team honors while ranking third nationally in passing yards (3,941) with 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Despite his strong performance, the Bulldogs were left out of the College Football Playoff.
Expectations were high for Beck heading into last season, but both he and Georgia’s offense struggled with inconsistencies. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback saw his interception total double to 12, while his completion percentage dropped from 72.4% in 2023 to 64.7%. Although Georgia secured an SEC title and reached the playoff, the offense, which had ranked in the top five nationally the previous year, fell to 51st overall. Opting to return to college instead of entering the NFL Draft, Beck now has a fresh start in Miami, where he will look to rebound after recovering from elbow surgery. The Hurricanes boasted the nation’s top offense last season, led by potential No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Ward.
If Beck can recapture his 2023 form, Miami could emerge as a playoff contender. According to an anonymous SEC coach interviewed by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Georgia’s offensive struggles in 2024 were largely due to a weaker supporting cast. “I just felt like they didn’t have the same receiving corps last year that they had the year before,” the coach said. “He took a lot of the heat. I’m sure there were things he could have done better, but they weren’t the same. You lose the big tight end from the year before, you lose a couple of other guys, and you’re trying to piece it together.”
Georgia’s passing attack suffered from the departures of two key players—two-time Mackey Award-winning tight end Brock Bowers and All-SEC wide receiver Ladd McConkey—leading to a season plagued by dropped passes. If a lack of weapons was a major factor in Beck’s struggles, Miami will need to ensure he has a strong supporting cast. The Hurricanes must replace key departures, including program-leading receiver Xavier Restrepo, along with Sam Brown, Jacolby George, and Isaiah Horton, who all declared for the NFL Draft. LSU transfer CJ Daniels, along with a talented 2025 recruiting class, will aim to fill the void. Beck and the revamped Hurricanes will kick off the 2025 season against national championship runner-up Notre Dame on August 31.
