Wilson, 25, compiled a .231 batting average over his minor league career, tallying 38 home runs, 164 RBIs, 50 stolen bases, and a .662 OPS across 1,358 at-bats. In 2024, he hit .208 with ten home runs, 38 RBIs, and ten stolen bases, recording a .608 OPS.
Wilson isn’t the only recent Phillies second-round pick with a notable story. Roman Quinn, selected in 2011, showed flashes of potential in the majors but struggled with injuries and inconsistency. Two years later, the Phillies drafted Andrew Knapp, who served as a backup catcher before eventually being replaced. Another high-profile second-round pick, Scott Kingery, arrived with great expectations but never secured a lasting spot in MLB despite annual optimism in spring training.
Philadelphia continued this pattern with Wilson, the 49th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. Less than four years later, they parted ways with him. Now, outfielder Griffin Burkholder, the team’s latest second-round selection, aims to break the trend.
