This setback is tough for Estrada, who played a vital role for the Giants from 2021 to 2024. In particular, he stood out in 2022 and 2023 as one of the team’s most well-rounded players. Over those two seasons, he posted a .266/.319/.408 slash line with 28 home runs and 111 RBIs while providing strong defense at second base—though he was overlooked for Gold Glove honors. Estrada was also highly respected in the clubhouse, earning the prestigious Willie Mac Award in 2023.

The 2024 season was a challenging one for Estrada. Injuries plagued him throughout the year, and when he was on the field, he struggled to find his rhythm. In 96 games at the major league level, he slashed .217/.247/.343 with nine home runs and 47 RBIs. His struggles ultimately led to him being placed on waivers at the end of August.
During the offseason, Estrada landed with the Colorado Rockies, who gave him an opportunity to revive his career as their starting second baseman.
Early in spring training, he showed promising signs of a resurgence, collecting 14 hits in 35 at-bats. There was even a lighthearted moment with former teammate Logan Webb during a Cactus League game when Webb accidentally threw behind Estrada on the first pitch, leading to some laughs between the ex-teammates.
Unfortunately, Estrada’s 2025 campaign has taken a tough turn before it even truly started. His broken wrist, suffered after being hit by a pitch, brings back memories of a similar injury Hunter Pence endured in spring training of 2015.
Hopefully, Estrada won’t be sidelined for the full two months and can return to action soon, showing glimpses of the solid play he displayed with the Giants. With any luck, when he does face his former team, he won’t make them regret letting him go.
