GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Star catcher and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a three-year contract worth $14.925 million, securing an additional $11.5 million in guaranteed earnings.He was acquired from the New York Yankees in December in exchange for reliever Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson. He initially avoided arbitration by signing a one-year, $3.425 million deal, which would have made him a free agent after the 2024 World Series.
Under his new contract, Trevino will earn $5.25 million in both 2026 and 2027. The deal also includes a $6.5 million club option for 2028 with a $1 million buyout.
With Tyler Stephenson side lined due to an oblique injury—having last played on March 11—Trevino is set to open the season as the Reds’ primary catcher.
Limited to 74 games last season, Trevino hit .215 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs. He had a standout 2022 season, earning his first All-Star selection, winning a Gold Glove, and setting career highs with 11 home runs, 43 RBIs, and a .248 batting average over 115 games.
Over seven major league seasons with the Texas Rangers and Yankees, Trevino has posted a .236 batting average with 32 home runs and 141 RBIs.
