Former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck transferred to Miami this spring following an elbow injury, a move that one NFL general manager views as a red flag.
With Beck’s departure, the Georgia Bulldogs will enter the 2025 season with Gunner Stockton as the presumed starting quarterback. Beck, who started for Georgia for two seasons, suffered a shoulder injury during the SEC Championship game before transferring to Miami, reportedly securing a $4.5 million NIL deal.
There has been much debate about whether Beck wanted to return to Georgia after withdrawing from the 2025 NFL Draft or if the Bulldogs were even open to having him back. Different sources have offered conflicting narratives, but one NFL GM sees Beck’s decision to leave as a concern.
Speaking about the 2026 NFL Draft class, the GM told Georgia Bulldogs on SI, “Whether Kirby [Smart] let him go or he chose to leave, it’s a major red flag. It definitely hurts his standing with us. He didn’t transfer to win, face tougher competition, or receive better coaching—it’s not a good look. His decision just doesn’t make sense, and it raises a lot of questions.”
Georgia has a strong track record of producing NFL talent, with numerous alumni playing for successful organizations. Teams such as the Falcons, Ravens, Bills, Bengals, Browns, Packers, Jaguars, Chargers, Rams, Raiders, Eagles, Steelers, and 49ers each have at least two former Bulldogs on their rosters. The Philadelphia Eagles lead the pack, with 13% of their roster—seven players—hailing from Georgia.
