After an eventful first week of free agency, during which the Minnesota Vikings signed 14 new players to contracts exceeding $300 million, the team still quietly needs a third wide receiver. Jalen Nailor, a 2021 sixth-round pick, struggled with consistency last season despite appearing in all 17 games for the first time in his career. While he currently holds the position, the Vikings aim to increase competition, especially with Trent Sherfield joining the Denver Broncos and Brandon Powell remaining a free agent.

The team hosted former Arizona Cardinals second-round pick Rondale Moore for a visit on March 14, evaluating him as a potential addition in the slot. However, Moore left without a deal and is now exploring other opportunities, including within the NFC North. On March 17, he visited the Chicago Bears, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

On paper, Moore looked like a low-risk, potentially high-reward signing for the Vikings. He ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the 2021 NFL Combine and is just 24 years old.

Moore played three seasons with the Cardinals, totaling 135 receptions, 1,201 yards receiving along with 52 carries for 249 yards rushing and four total touchdowns. Moore was traded to the Atlanta Falcons but suffered a season-ending knee injury in training camp.

Moore appeared to be a high-upside, versatile playmaker who could fit well into Kevin O’Connell’s offense, capable of lining up outside, in the slot, or even in the backfield. Minnesota’s salary cap isn’t a concern, as the team has nearly $33 million available, per Over The Cap. Spotrac estimated Moore’s market value at around $1.5 million per year. However, with both the Vikings and Bears allowing him to leave without a contract, there may be concerns regarding his health or physical evaluation. Meanwhile, the Vikings reached an agreement with Tim Jones on March 18, though he is expected to primarily contribute on special teams as a replacement for Trent Sherfield. As for Moore, while he remains unsigned, he could simply be considering multiple offers as his free agency continues.
