JUST IN: Indianapolis Colts Makes stunning Move In NFL Free Agency That Could Lead To Star QB Trade

A well-known NFL insider suggests that the Indianapolis Colts might be a strong contender for the top quarterback in this month’s free agency.

Following a surprising 11-5 season in 2020, the Colts have failed to make the playoffs for four consecutive years, going through three different head coaches in that span. While there are multiple sources of frustration, the team’s most pressing challenge has been finding stability at the quarterback position.

Indianapolis Colts rumors identify QB targets in NFL free agency

Since 2020, Indianapolis has had five different starting quarterbacks. The team hoped they had found their future franchise quarterback when they selected Florida star who isĀ  with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, the 22-year-old athlete has struggled to develop his game to the level required for consistent success at the highest level. Despite this, the prevailing assumption has been that the team would give him another chance to progress as their starting QB and leader in 2025. But on Tuesday, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah hinted that the franchise might take a bold step and replace Richardson with a top talent in the coming weeks.

Could the Indianapolis Colts target Sam Darnold in NFL free agency?

Pursuing Sam Darnold would be a surprising move for the Colts this month. If he becomes available in free agency, he is likely to secure a contract that will consume a significant portion of the $35 million Indianapolis has to spend this offseason. However, the Colts do have a solid roster and showed promise in recent seasons with Joe Flacco and Gardner Minshew at quarterback.

Sam Darnold’s 2024 stats: 4,319 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 102.5 passer rating.

Signing Darnold to a large, multi-year contract would undoubtedly spark speculation that Anthony Richardson might be on the trade block. Several QB-needy teams, especially those not sold on the draft prospects this year, would likely inquire about Richardson.
