Florida Gulf Coast was on the brink of pulling off an upset against Georgia on Friday night but ultimately collapsed, leading to the firing of their social media administrator.
The admin made a poorly timed post that was quickly deleted due to the bad luck it seemed to bring.

While I believe FGCU intended the post as a self-deprecating joke, it quickly backfired. I have no reason to believe anyone was truly fired over a harmless jab, but it’s much more amusing to imagine that a staff member was reassigned because they unintentionally jinxed the game with their social media post.
The Eagles wasted no time, jumping to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Georgia responded with a run in the third to make it 5-1, and the score held until the fifth inning. That’s when the fateful post was made. Florida Gulf Coast took a shot at the SEC with a post on X, and immediately, Georgia scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to one. The Bulldogs then took a 9-7 lead in the sixth inning. Uh oh… Maybe the SEC had the last laugh.
The Eagles managed to tie the game with a solo home run in the eighth and another run in the ninth, but were unable to force a 10th inning. A hit-by-pitch, two walks, and two errors led to a walk-off fielder’s choice for Georgia.
Once the game ended, Florida Gulf Coast swiftly deleted the SEC post and announced that the social media administrator had been let go.

I am sure this is just a joke. If I had to guess, the same person who posted the jinx probably posted the final score graphic and self-deprecating jab. Maybe not. Either way, this one did not age well!
